Chimney Breast Bricked Up

So after the week of having builders helping with the major structural work (new kitchen door, new beams in the attic to support the chimney breast, the chimney breast removed, and new beams in the snug) we had one final job they were doing for us – bricking back up the chimney breast scar.

After removing the chimney breast, we were able to see the state of the wall – and it wasn’t ideal. The mortar was very powdery and crumbly, and the bricks that had been used were all half bricks. Lee was concerned about the integrity of the wall and so it was a priority to get the chimney breast bricked up quickly to help provide some stability to the wall:

We need to do more work on the wall, but fingers crossed this has helped a bit.
